It all started with a vision in 2014. Surrounded by books, good company and scotch, several local ‘aficionados’ of Sir Winston Churchill gathered at Landmark Booksellers to discuss the potentials and possibilities of a local chapter of the International Churchill Society in Tennessee. From the very first meeting, old friends of decades past, determined to bring together a group of other 'aficionados' who enjoy convivial conversation, libations (not too much) and appreciation for the man of the 20th Century, Sir Winston Spencer Churchill. And, by the summer of 2016, the Churchill Society of Tennessee formed.
Initially, the intent was to 'recruit' admirers of Winston Churchill. However, the Churchill Society of Tennessee, or as we fondly call it CSOT, did not want to ignore the possibility there could be interested individuals, but unsure about its composition. We are not a 'fan' club, nor a group that fails to acknowledge the man, at times, had clay feet. Rather, we are an organization committed to preserving the legacy of perhaps the greatest statesman and orator of the 20th century.
Welcome to the Churchill Society of Tennessee
The mission of the Churchill Society of Tennessee is to promote the brilliant written and spoken words of Sir Winston Churchill, to gain a better perspective on his strengths and struggles, and to engage, educate and encourage others to recognize the wisdom, wit and perseverance of a man whose connection to 19th and 20th century history remains relevant in today’s global world.
Based in Nashville, Tennessee, The Churchill of Society of Tennessee enjoys convivial conversation while gaining a greater appreciation for THE MAN of the 20th Century, Sir Winston Spencer Churchill. We fully endorse his now deceased daughter Lady Mary Soames's adage: 'To keep the memory green and the record accurate'. We are committed to strong, educational programming and events throughout the year for our members to experience the life and legacy of Sir Winston Churchill.
